Security Council Endorses Cessation of Hostilities in Syria

United Nations, February 26 2016 The United Nations (UN) Security Council unanimously adopted resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities and a grant for access to humanitarian workers to ease the suffering of the people in Syria. The resolution, which takes effect at midnight, Damascus time, comes after five years of conflict and includes all parties to the conflict excluding Daesh and Jahbat an-Nusra. United Nations, February 16 2016 Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today hailed his predecessor, Boutros Boutros Ghali, as a respected statesman who brought “formidable experience and intellectual power to the task of piloting the United Nations through one of the most tumultuous and challenging periods in its history.” Boutros-Ghali, UN Secretary-General from 1992 to 1996, died at the age of 93.
