The head of a Syrian opposition group today asked the UN Security Council for a safe zone in Syria.
In a press conference sponsored by the United Kingdom, Khaled Khoja, President of the Coalition of Syria Revolution and Opposition Forces, said he had asked for the safe zone earlier in the day in an informal meeting of the Security Council.
A spokesperson for the UK delegation said representatives of all members of the Security Council were at the informal meeting.
Khoja said
“I appealed to the council to enforce its resolutions, ensure accountability as part of the political process, and take steps to stop barrel bombs. Safe zones are the obvious way to achieve all goals.”
