During a Security Council’s ministerial-level debate on Maintaining International Peace and Security, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said “we must be willing to act before situations deteriorate. This is both a moral responsibility and critical for the maintenance of international peace and security. We cannot afford to be indifferent.”
The debate –with some 80 speakers -reviews the course of the UN since it was founded 70 years ago and promotes the spirit of the UN Charter.
Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations:
“We must be willing to act before situations deteriorate. This is both a moral responsibility and critical for the maintenance of international peace and security. We cannot afford to be indifferent. Let us also recognize that the exercise of sovereignty brings with it important responsibilities.”
Sergey V. Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation:
“What seriously poisons international relations is the unfolding media war with politicised international media, internet and social networks. I am convinced that freedom of expression and thought should not justify the manipulation of information, brainwashing and also undermining states and their policies as well as to inflame the religious division.”
